Was the Bible changed over time?
Not in the way people fear. The Bible was hand-copied for centuries, but it was not corrupted. There are thousands of early manuscripts to compare, the differences between them are mostly tiny, and none of them overturns a single core Christian belief.
What it actually is
It is true that the Bible was copied by hand before printing, and that copies contain small variations. But that is exactly what lets scholars reconstruct the original text: with so many independent copies, errors in one show up plainly against the others. The New Testament survives in around 5,800 Greek manuscripts, some fragments within decades of the originals, far more and far earlier than any other ancient text.
The overwhelming majority of differences are spelling and word order. No disputed reading changes a central Christian teaching.
