Timkat (Ethiopian Epiphany)

Timkat is Ethiopia's joyful celebration of the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan. It is one of the most vivid festivals in the Christian world, remembering the day the heavens opened and the Father named Jesus his beloved Son.

How it is celebrated

Priests carry the Tabot, a replica of the ark, in colorful processions, and the faithful gather by water for a great blessing and renewal of their baptism, often in white robes.
