Isaac sent Jacob to Padan-aram to take a wife from Laban's household, and there Jacob married Leah and Rachel and fathered most of the tribes of Israel. It was the place of Jacob's long service to Laban. The patriarchs drew their wives from this region rather than from Canaan.
