A Christian counselor or therapist can serve Christ and neighbour by bringing skilled, compassionate care to the wounded: through church-based counseling, crisis and disaster care, member care for missionaries, and low-cost help for those who could never afford it. To sit patiently with a broken heart is to carry the comfort of God.
Your skill is needed
Suffering is everywhere and skilled, gentle care is scarce, especially where it is free. Churches are full of quiet pain; missionaries burn out far from help; disasters leave whole communities in trauma. A counselor who gives even a few hours, or who supports those on the front lines, mends what money cannot. Bear one another’s burdens, Scripture says, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Where this skill serves
Real organizations and honest opportunity-types for counselors of faith include:
- the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), a large professional association of Christian counselors offering training, resources, and connection.
- church-based and lay counseling ministries, many churches need qualified counselors to build and supervise care ministries and to help their people well.
- crisis, disaster, and chaplaincy care, disaster-response and chaplaincy ministries use trained counselors and chaplains to bring emotional and spiritual care after tragedy.
- missionary member care, missions need counselors to support and restore workers under strain, some of it delivered remotely.
