Who was Saint Agatha?
Saint Agatha was an early martyr of Sicily who suffered greatly for refusing to abandon her faith and her consecration to Christ. She has been honored since the earliest centuries of the church.
Why the patron of nurses?
Because of the sufferings she endured in her body, she is honored as a patron of nurses and of those who care for the sick and suffering.
